Killaloe Coast Guard received a call from ESB Management of an obstruction at Arnacrusha Power Station. Caused by sheets of Plywood. Plywood causing an obstruction to Turbines.

Debris removed successfully.

These airborne Chinese lanterns have
become increasingly popular in recent years as a way of marking special events.
However, they do pose a significant danger to aviation traffic and can cause
the deployment of Irish Coast Guard resources on false rescue missions. Chinese
lanterns, drifting across a night sky, are commonly mistaken by the public for
marine distress flares.

Killaloe Cosat Guard Unit were called to a report of an upturned Kayak in very fast flowing water at Doonass Co Clare. On Scene were the Garda from Ardnacrusha and Limerick Marine Rescue. The Kayak was recovered and after inquiries it was found that the Kayake had been missing since the day before with no one in it. The search was stood down.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked to assist Doolin Coast Guard Unit and Rescue 115 Irish Coast Guard Helicopter in the search for a Female Adult missing since Friday last in an Area near the Cliffs of Moher.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit received a call from a member of the public that a 16'speed boat was sinking in a harbour near Killaloe there was no one on board. Two salvage pumps were deployed to the scene and the boat saved.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit would ask that all boat owners check their batteries and bilge pumps before the Christmas.

Killaloe Coast Guard was by tasked by MRSC Valentia, to assist Doolin Coast Guard and Ennistymon Gardaí in the search for a missing person. The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115 , was also tasked . The team assembled at the Cliffs of Moher and deployed search teams from there, covering the coast line north and south of the area.       While Killaloe   Coast Guard Unit was attending an event on river there was a large spill of   fuel oil noticed in the Killaloe area by a member of the public. MRSC   Valentia requested  Killaloe Coastguard   Unit  to investigate the source of the   spill. The pollution was traced back  to a be rib    in Derg Marina. A large fuel oil spill was coming from the vessel. Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked along with the RNLI Lifeboat Dromineer and the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 115 from Shannon. Killaloe Coast Guard Unit was tasked to assist a 21' power cruiser that was having engine trouble. The power boat had three persons on board and was in no immediate danger. While preparing to launch, Valentia Coast Guard Regional Control Center learned that the injured vessell was again underway. Killaloe Coast Guard was requested to standby until the craft had returned to safe harbour.

Due to WSW winds another craft and a jetski stood by until the Killaloe Unit Rescue Boat "Dalton" arrived on scene. The Injuried Craft with one person on board was towed to safe Harbour near by.

Killaloe Coast Guard were alerted by Valentcia Coast Guard that a person had entered the water at Ballina Quay. A boat crew and shore team assembled and as they prepared to launch were stood down as it was discovered that no one had entered the water. Killaloe Garda were also on scene and the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter at Shannon was on Standby.

Killaloe Coast Guard received a call from a member of the public stating that a 20' small barge type vessel was a drift and gathering momentum towards Killaloe Bridge. The Spirit of Killaloe assisted by pushing the boat to the shoreline were the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Boat "Dalton" then towed the injured craft to safe mooring. It was established that no persons had been on board.

Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked to a report of a male in his early twenties in the water south of killaloe Bridge. The young adult was fully clothed and his girlfriend had also entered the water to try and assist him.

Killaloe Coast Guard who was preparing for an overnight training exercise from Foynes to Ballybunnion launched immediately the vessel was recovered and tied up a Ballina Moorings with no one on board.

The object was found to be a wheelie bin which could have been a hazard to navigation in the area. The bin was removed to Mountpilier.

Killaloe Coast were tasked to contain a small fuel spill from a 32' Cruiser which sank at Kincora Harbour spilling Diesel and engine oil into the harbour. Booms were  placed at the mouth of the harbour to contain pollution. The Coast Guard at Killaloe would request all boat owners to check on their boats after the cold spell.

Killaloe Coast Guard was tasked by MRSC Valentia to a report from Killaloe Garda that someone may have fallen through the Ice at a Lake situated at the junction of the R466 and R463 near O,Briens Bridge in Co Clare.

The Killaloe Coast Guard Unit towed the craft and its three passangers to safety at Ballina Slip.

The unit  carried out some excercises and afterwards  there was a BBQ for all the participants courtesy of OLDFARM.

The pontoon was safely recovered a towed to its original owners.

Boat which had just been purchased the day before lost power on the lower lake and due to the SW winds the craft was being pushed towards the Tipperary Shore. The boat was towed to Ballina Slip were it was tailored.

When Killaloe coast Guard arrived on scene a passing boat had given assistance and was towing the injured craft towards Killaloe. The Killaloe Rescue Boat escorted both vessels back to Killaloe. There were two persons on board.

The Hired Cruiser got into difficulty when a rope got tangled around its propeller, causing it to loose control and get stuck in the first ach of Killaloe Bridge just under Molly's Bar. The three persons and the craft were safely towed to safe moorings at Ballina.

When rescue boat arrived on scene one person was found to be on board and unconscious from alcohol and was not wearing a life jacket. The Person and his craft were towed to Kincora Harbor.

The Coast Guard Rescue Rib was immediatly launched and the casualty taken to the Killaloe Coast Guard Base where he was treated for Hypothermia and minor injuries befor been taken by ambulance to the Regional Hospital in Limerick. Killaloe Gardai were also on scene.

Killaloe Coast Guard immediately dispatched their rescue boat to the scene who confirmed that a speed boat with twelve persons on board of which two had swam ashore. Mike Jones and Peter Williams, both from Cork, reached Port St. Charles, Barbados late on Wednesday March 10th having completed a 5000km row across the Atlantic Ocean. 

The duo, as part of an international crew of 6, set out from Agadir, Morocco on 12th January. The row took 57 days, 20 hours. Killaloe Coast Guard were requested by the Newport Garda to assist in the search for a missing 62 year old male, last seen at 0900am on the 4th of March. The call came after the 17 year old fell down a reven in an area known localy as the Glen Garraunnboy Killaloe and dislocated his knee the teenager had his mobile phone and was able to raise the alarm, however the reven was too steep to allow the stretcher to be carried out. Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were called to assist in the search for an elderly farmer that went missing at 16:00hrs, near Quinn in Co Clare neighbours, Gardai and civil defence conducted a search of the area, however as darkness set in the Coast Guard Helicopter from Shannon and the Killaloe coast Guard were asked to assist in the search.

Killaloe Coast Guard were tasked to assist Doolin Coast Guard to recover a female adult from the base of the Ciffs of Moher. Eight members from Killaloe travelled to assist Doolin Coast Guard in an operation that took over four hours to complete and required two members of the Doolin Cllff Rescue team to climb down to the base of the cliff.

Killaloe Coast Guard were tasked to assist Derg Marina to move all the Cruisers and Yachts on the river side of the Marina to safe mooring in the inner harbour. A total of 19 boats were moved.  Doolin Coast Guard were called to assist.Killaloe &amp; Doolin Coast Guard carried out a survey of O'Briens Bridge, Clonlara, University Limerick, Corbally. Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were requested by the ESB at Ardnacrusha to secure or move any boats that may break loose and block the flow of water through the Bridge. The Full unit was tasked and a check was made of all harbours and moorings in the area. Any boats tied to the "skiny wall" were moved to the left side of the canal or to the Pir Head.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were called to a large oil spill in the canal at Killaloe, The slick on the water extended approx 200' in lenght, oil pollution booms were placed at both ends to contain the pollution untill the Clare Co Co evaluated the situation. A navigation warning was broadcasted on marine radio informing boaters that the canal was closed.

Killaloe Coast Guard were tasked to assist a 20' Yacht that lost its engine power on Lough Derg. The report stated that the craft was one mile north of Killaloe however the Killaloe Coast Guard had to fire two Luminating Flares to find the craft which was 5 miles north of Killaloe in  total darkness. The yacht was found and towed to Killaloe with three persons on board.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were tasked when a 27' Private Cruiser with two persons on Board went aground off Goat Isl after inspecting the craft for any damage it was taken off the rocks, the skipper and passanger returned to Kincora harbour Killaloe under their own steam.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit as part of their water safety programme visited the students of Killaloe Boy's National School. A safety on the water presentation plus a brief description of the different equipment used was given. Due to fog the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter from Shannon did a fly over however due to low fog they had to return to Shannon.

Killaloe Coast Guard Unit were called when a private cruiser had enginge failure in strong currents just north of Killaloe Bridge. The cruiser was pulled to safety by a member of the Coast Guard unit and moored safely at the New slip at Ballina. The one person on Board was then driven to his Car.
